California Inland PCA

Autocross Recap

When I first saw the course map I was worried about the numerous slalom areas on the course but I was able to navigate them better than I thought I would. The third slalom that was just before the long sweeper had only 3 cones but many people had a difficult time seeing the line. I worked the cone station for that area and there were at least 15-20 DNF’s for cars that missed a cone in the morning for just one run group.

I had my best time of the day (49.667) on my second run in the afternoon. Unfortunately, a 996 that went later in our run group developed a coolant leak while on the course that left a trail over almost half the track. It took a long time for the crew to clean the track, and even then there was a spot that was still slick so they had to change the course. This meant that none of the afternoon times would count.  I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress this year after only my 4th Autocross. Ian Anderson has done a good job in helping me with the fundamentals and finding a good line. Now I just need to improve my confidence in me and the car. There are times that I am subconsciously backing off the throttle or braking too soon. Thanks also to Jeff Bartel who did a good job keeping me focused and looking ahead.
