I have always had a passion for cars, and a particular affliction for Porsches. I recall pouring through the pages of magazines as a kid and making my parents visit dealerships in Florida while on family vacations where I met all my heroes. I’ve been fortunate to own several amazing Porsches in my adult life, and one of the things I love about California is seeing so many drool worthy cars daily even just driving around town, you never know what you are going to see. I have been a PCA member since 1995, a member of 3 different regions, the Upper Canada Region, the Windy City Region, and now California Inland. I have met some amazing people, attended some great events been fortunate to drive my favorite cars on some mind-blowing roads and enjoy meals with like minded friends.
When I moved to California in 2019 from Chicago, it took me a while to get connected to the local PCA chapter, I’m sure the pandemic had something to do with that, but once I started attending drives and connecting with the people it reenforced to me how special this group is. Much like my experience in Chicago I noticed the dedication of the people that were organizing events, creating a memorable experience for the rest of us and quite simply enhancing the ownership experience of my Porsche. The example of these people motivated me to offer my help. I heard the speech several times at the pre-drive driver’s meeting, “if you have an idea or want to lead a drive, we would appreciate the help and are here to help get you started.” In 2024 I took the leap and offered to lead a drive, in the end it was a bit more work than I had thought, but it was fun, I got to scope out some new roads, map it all out, talk it over beforehand with the group and bring several new friends along for the ride and have a great lunch. The experience made me even more grateful for the extraordinary effort that individuals in the California Inland club do to organize events like this, and hearing how much fun everyone had on the route I curated made me so happy I said I would do it again.
I have also graciously taken the reigns from Dale Riedel to draft the newsletter for the region, this is my first edition so I would be grateful for a bit of grace but also feedback on what you might like to read more about (or less). If you are sitting on the fence and have not yet made it out to a drive, a cars & coffee, or an autocross event, I would love to see you out there, to ogle your Porsche, but also to hear your story, it might make for great content in an upcoming newsletter.
